Kensington Tutoring

Cultivating exceptional learners through individualized and small group instruction

Kensington Tutoring Academy promotes the excitement of learning for those young children in our pre-k or kindergarten classes who would benefit from the focus of one-on-one and small group instruction. Whether a child has exceptional skill levels or is in need of a jump-start from a more individualized plan, our customized tutoring classes provide children with direct instruction in the foundational skills of reading, writing, and mathematics.

Early Reader

We offer the “Early Reader” program to enhance a child’s reading skills. After an evaluation, we will create a personalized program that is appropriate for the child’s reading level.  This course can provide preparatory skills such as letter recognition and sounds, or it can enhance a reader’s understanding of sight words and comprehension.

Mathematics Essential Skills

Our hands-on mathematics program incorporates the University of Chicago’s Everyday Mathematics®. Individualized instruction utilizing math manipulatives and teaching strategies designed to help children master essential math skills and build the confidence to carry these skills to his or her classroom.

Handwriting Workshop

Kensington’s “Handwriting Workshop” cultivates superior printing habits and skills. Handwriting Without Tears®, a multi-sensory approach, makes handwriting accessible and fun.  The unique materials and appealing activities build on children’s strengths as they improve their proficiency in letter formation, legibility, and spacing.

Children enrolled in our Tutoring Academy have an informal skills assessment after which an individualized program of instruction is developed. Classes are 45 minutes in length and sessions are 5 to 6 weeks. Parents are given a progress report mid-session.
